Before 1996, when CCMS and CCHS were built, Clay Elementary was providing local students a good start on their lifetime of learning. School enrollment is about 640 students.
Clay Elementary has a very active PTA that helps with room monitors and fund raisers.
- In 2012, Clay Elementary met all 17 indicator goals in the Annual Yearly Progress ratings.
- In 2012, teacher Clay Elementary teacher Leslie Childs won $500 in the CVS One Class at a Time grant.
- Test scores at the school consistently rank within the 90th percentile when compared to other schools in the state of Alabama.
- 100% of Clay Elementary School teachers are "Highly Qualified," meaning they have more education than the bachelor's degree required to be a teacher.
Dr. Sharon Gallant, the principal, is focused on Clay Elementary having the latest in interactive technology to create a stimulating learning environment. The school has received multiple grants to help them accomplish this goal. With help from these grants, the school has Promethean boards and iPads.
