The Perception is...
The other day my brother-in-law commented on how city inspections was another tax of the government: “Just another way to get more peoples' money.”
The Reality is...
City inspections is not designed to be a revenue-generating department. All inspections are provided by our city at no charge to the homeowner. I think we all have experienced problems with our homes that we should not have.
Your home is your biggest monetary investment. You should protect that investment by making sure all work is done properly. The safety of you and your family may depend on how the work is completed. If I am going to have gas, electrical, plumbing or structural work done, I want to know my family will be safe. So whether it’s a new deck or a new heater system, take advantage of the protection for your investment and safety by making sure it’s done right.
The City has adopted the International Building Code to help us assure that your new additions are constructed and installed with the highest standards for your safety and protection. Hire only a licensed contractor who trusts his work enough to have it inspected. The City of Clay has not had any complaints on the quality of inspections since the employment of Inspector Lynn Burch. I would like to thank the two of them on behalf of the Mayor and City Council.
