The City of Clay Library Board works under the authority of the Clay City Council in making decisions concerning Clay's new public library. They make final decisions on operation policies and assist the council in deciding on expenditures. The library director answers to this board and the Clay City Council.
This newly-formed group has been working hard during the 2009 summer to bring to birth a library in the historic Jayfe Ware House. Sorting through donated books, interviewing candidates and other work took many hours to make this 2002 concept a reality.
This group meets at the Clay Public Library on the fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m.
Members of this board are:
- Chairman Karen Moody
- Sheryl Stewart
- Sheryl Spivey
- Ron Self
- Tom Blake
Councilwoman Jackie Hambrick is the liaison between the board and the Clay City Council.
Friends of Clay Library
In assisting the library director and the City of Clay Library Board is a group of volunteers called the Friends of Clay Library. Although they have no authority over the library operations, they are extremely valuable in making sure patrons are served well.
Individuals from this group can be seen at the library when it is open, helping patrons find material, answering questions, checking out material and many other services. When a special event is planned at the library, the Friends of Clay Library help with refreshments. They also plan to sponsor fundraisers.
To become a member, all that is needed is your name and contact information. A small donation is appreciated. Contact Lisa Halstead at 680-1250 for more information.
