March 27 was a special day of activity for the City of Clay. A historical marker was unveiled in front of City Hall. We encourage all to read this marker to learn the history and unique geological features of the city we call home.
At 11 a.m., many gathered at the Clay Public Library in a Grand Opening ceremony. The biggest news is additional money that will come to the library.

House Representative Allen Treadaway said he was able to acquire $5,000 in a grant for the library.
A big surprise was that Lance Greer, Jayford Ware's great-grandson, traveled from Georgia to not only be present, but also to announce he is contributing $500 to the library.
Greer and his two sons are the only surviving descendants of the man who built the house that is now the library.
Pam Traylor also gave a summary of how the house was preserved and who Ware was. She attributed much of her information to Geneva Ware, who died a few years ago. Mrs. Ware was Greer's grandmother.
Traylor said the lessons of Jayford Ware's life can be applied to the Clay library: start small, protect your resources and look and plan ahead.
In the evening, at the Clay Community Center, people gathered for the monthly singing. Councilman Charles Webster organizes the event. On March 27, a young local performer entertained everyone.
