The City of Clay recently passed a new "Weed Ordinance" to prevent property owners from allowing their grass to grow so long it presents a health concern.
The new ordinance allows the City to collect on liens at the time the property owner pays his property taxes instead of the City having to wait until the property is sold, as was the case previously.
A property owner in violation will be notified, given time to correct the problem or appeal. After the alloted time has passed, the City will cut the weeds. Then the property owner will have to pay the City for that work and a lien will be put on the property if it is not paid.
See the new ordinance here.
