Take a Walk at Cosby
altIn early 2008, the City of Clay purchased the Cosby Lake property for the enjoyment of all its residents. Already, many are taking advantage of the fishing opportunities.

Now, a walking path behind the lake has been improved with fine gravel. It is about six feet wide and most of it is wheel chair accessible. We encourage residents to enjoy the singing birds, the wild hydrangias, and the ferns as they walk or run along the path.

The City Council is also looking at ways to finish the loop on the front end of the lake by using bridges. Look for more on this soon. At this time, access is available on the Steeplechase Drive and on the other side at the dam.

Also, the wetlands on the Steeplechase side of the park may provide some nature-watching opportunities with beavers and birds.

In a May proclamation, the Clay City Council expressed appreciation of local Boy Scouts in a recent project to clean up the park.

Remember the park rules:
  • Park is open dawn to dusk.
  • Park vehicles in designated areas only.
  • No motorized vehicles on trail or grass area.
  • No swimming. No gasoline motors in lake.
  • No alcohol, drugs or weapons permitted.
  • Fishing allowed with a State of Alabama fishing license.
  • Pets must be on a leash and under control.
  • Glass containers, fire, and fireworks are not permitted.
  • No unaccompied children under 12 years of age.
  • Be respectful of others. Pick up all trash, bait and clean up after pets.
  • Tobacco products are prohibited.
